bIENVENUE / wELCOME!
Bienvenue / Welcome !
Please navigate the links in the menu bar for access to our classroom strategy posters (Les Stratégies), sites your child can use at home to practice and expand their knowledge of French (Useful French Links), blog entries (Blogue - for extended French), and more. Contact me at [email protected] with any questions.
During Term 1, in alignment with our French as a Second Language curricular goals, students in both the Extended and Core French programs focus primarily on learning and applying the various listening, speaking, reading and writing strategies that enable us to interact meaningfully in French. Reviewing these strategies (see link) at home will help them become an automatic tool your child can access quickly when tackling academic tasks. As an ongoing homework assignment, students are asked to seek 15+ minutes of exposure to the French language. That means they should be reading in French, listening to French, or - if possible - interacting in French. When you see "Input français" in your child's agenda, it is referring to this. Input is everything when learning a second language, and needs to be prioritized outside as well as inside the classroom. The Useful French Links section provides access to, for example, News in Slow French (audio news episodes accompanied by a text transcript), The French Experiment (French children's stories and French lessons) and French Stories in HD for children (stories on YouTube with audio and captions). These are just a few examples, and I will update this section as I come across more resources.
In addition, September and October will provide opportunity for students in Extended French to explore such themes as Human organ systems, Francophone culture and First Nations & European communities in early and present-day Canada through a lens of social justice and mindful learning. We began the year with an exploration of brain-focused strategies for learning and living, in line with the Mind-Up Curriculum and our school-wide initiative: Growth Mindset. In our first lesson, we will investigate the basic ways in which our brains respond to stress in the environment, allowing us to uncover practical strategies we can apply to prime ourselves for learning and acting mindfully in the classroom and elsewhere.
This website will be developed as we progress through the year, including updates on classroom activities and important announcements.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]
