Students will be working this week to translate their pitches for the Invention Convention to French. They will include their French translation on their display boards. Students are not allowed to use translators to translate their pitches! Using a translator for full sentences does not allow students to work through the translation using the skills they have been developing. They are knowledgeable about conjugating verbs in the present, past and future tenses and have resources in class (and on this website) to help them with this. Online dictionaries for individual words (ex. www.wordreference.com or www.larousse.fr) are fine.
Below are the steps for breaking down the translation process (posted in class).
French pitches must be handed in by Monday, April 4th at the latest. This will allow me to correct their work and give it back for revisions in time for the Invention Convention on Friday, April 8th.
La convention d'invention: Ton argumentaire de vente ("Your pitch")
1. Write your pitch on lined paper, double- or triple-spaced.
2. Circle or colour code the subject(s) in each sentence (the subject is the "who" or the "what" in the sentence, which may be a noun or a pronoun).
> Translate each of these subjects
3. Underline or colour code the verb(s) in each sentence (the verbs are the action words or describing words)
> Translate each of the verbs and conjugate the verbs that are paired with subjects
4. Box or colour code the nouns, adjectives and adverbs
> Translate these and all remaining words, making sure to apply the rules that we have learned (ex. if a noun is plural, it's adjective must also be plural)
