Common feedback for students:
The graphic organizer task was as follows:
- Pick a topic that you can talk about in the present tense
- Write 10 simple sentences about your topic in English
- From these sentences, identify the subjects/pronouns and the verbs
- Write the subjects and verbs in French in the boxes provided
- On the back, make a list of vocabulary words in your sentences that you do not know in French; Look up their French translation
- Make sure you have a minimum of 2 regular IR verbs, 2 regular RE verbs and 6 regular ER verbs
- Avoid using the words "is/are/has/have" because these are irregular verbs
- Refer to your handout on common regular verbs for examples
Example:
- Topic = Gardening
- Sentence: Many people sell vegetables from their garden.
- Subject: Many people --> Certaines personnes
- Verb: Sell --> Vendre
- Vocab: vegetables (légumes); from (de); their (leur); garden (jardin)
Common feedback for students:
- Reword your sentences so that you are using regular verbs instead of irregular verbs like avoir and etre (ex. Instead of saying "Gardening is stress relieving", say "Gardening reduces stress").
- Find a way to write your sentences in the present tense instead of the past (ex. Instead of saying "He was born on May 30th" - past tense - say "He celebrates his birthday on May 30th - present tense).
- Refer to your common regular verbs handout and find more IR/RE/ER verbs you can use so that you meet the success criteria
- Begin to translate your sentences by starting simply: Write down the subject, write down the verb, conjugate the verb, finish the sentence by looking up the vocabulary you need
