Many thanks to those of you who came out to curriculum night. If anyone did not receive a handout, I have uploaded a copy at the end of this blog post.
The curriculum night handout also included information regarding two of our school initiatives: 1) The Shoebox Campaign (see file below and click for link) and 2) Growth Mindset (click for link).
The Shoebox Campaign
In line with our studies about First Nations peoples and cultures, as well as in response to the nation-wide need for meaningful steps to be taken to carry out the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, our class is committed to taking part in this campaign. Students are welcome to pair up and compile a shoebox together. All items must be new. We are also taking donations of extra shoeboxes, if you have any lying around that you are able to offer! Friday, October 20th is the final day to collect shoeboxes, which means we have 12 days to put our compassion into action. Your generosity and participation is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!
Here are the steps to be followed:
1. Choose a shoebox in good condition
2. Choose whether the gifts will be for a boy or girl
3. Choose the age range of the gifts: ages 3-5, 6-8, or 9-12
4. Fill the box with *new* items that would make a child happy! See link or file below for ideas.
5. Write a note to the child with happy thoughts (students will be given time to do this in class).
6. Place $5 in the box to help us cover the cost of shipping.
7. Give your box to Madame Davies by Friday, October 20th at the latest
Wishing you a fulfilling weekend with your families,
Madame
