*Please ensure your child has 15+ minutes of exposure to French on a daily basis. In the agenda, this is written as "French input" or "Input français". It can consist of reading, listening to French or, where possible, interacting with someone in French. Please see the Useful French Links for resources!*
*Photo orders are due Thursday, October 26th*
*New Scholastic orders are due November 28th*
Bonjour tout le monde!
The support from the grade 5 extended students and their families for the I Love First Peoples shoebox initiative is overwhelming. You and your children went above and beyond, collectively filling 31 shoeboxes (that number reflects the boxes donated by Mme Davies' and Mme Larivière's classes, as I teach social studies to both groups). The cards of friendship they wrote reflect a deep sense of compassion that brings me so much hope. Merci / Meegwetch / Thank you so very much for your supreme generosity in supporting the First Peoples living in remote areas in our country.
Students have been working very hard on their science and social studies/media projects. The science report is due Friday, October 27th. Students have had ample time to work on this in class and were asked to work on it over the weekend if they think they might be a bit behind. Students have checklists and planning sheets to help them ensure their final report includes all the pertinent information. Once finished the report, they are to be working on a skit, which will be incorporated into their drama mark. The social studies/media project is an infographic depicting 3+ positive interactions and 3+ negative consequences from contact between the First Nations people of Turtle Island and the European explorers. It should also include a "call to action". This is due Friday, November 3rd. Students have a rubric to guide them to success, and are encouraged to look at examples of infographics online (we have looked at many and analyzed the basic elements in class, but more examples may give them more inspiration). In addition, students have been working toward using their useful expressions in French on an ongoing basis in the classroom.
Our homeroom has been responding positively and eagerly to our school's Growth Mindset initiative. We have reviewed several videos, including these, and have been contrasting and comparing examples of "growth mindset" and "fixed mindset" statements. At every turn in our learning process, we have the opportunity to train our brains and grow from our mistakes!
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Joyeux dimanche / Happy Sunday!
